On 7 October 2024, the trust & safety community came together at the PARKROYAL COLLECTION, Marina Bay in Singapore for the highly anticipated 2024 APAC Summit where the sessions focused on the “Glocalization of Trust & Safety.” This event brought together 230+ professionals from 18 different countries with 50+ speakers and 25+ sessions to exchange ideas, share best practices, and explore the critical challenges facing the trust and safety landscape globally. Thank you to Meta for being our 2024 APAC Summit sponsor.
A Platform for Knowledge Sharing and Exploration
The APAC Summit served as an incredible opportunity for trust and safety professionals to hear, learn, and engage with leaders in the industry. As one attendee noted, it was an “opportunity to hear, learn, and explore with experts and leaders across borders. [These events] open avenues to critically think about the thematic areas that impact globally and to adopt the best practices.” This perfectly encapsulates the essence of the summit—a space where regional issues are examined through a global lens, fostering a deep understanding of how to address challenges at both local and international levels.
With sessions ranging from Generative AI in Nepal, gaming, to tackling issues with the election landscape, the summit provided attendees with the tools and insights needed to navigate an increasingly complex digital environment. Panel discussions, workshops, presentations, and a special keynote fireside chat with Adelin Cai and Clara Koh covered key topics such as emerging regulatory frameworks, the rise of AI in content moderation, and the importance of mental health support for trust and safety teams. These sessions inspired knowledge-sharing and enabled participants to return to their organizations with fresh strategies to improve safety across platforms.
The Power of Networking
Beyond the knowledge shared, the APAC Summit also underscored the value of building relationships within this growing T&S community. One attendee summed it up well: “Networking was great as always—such a brilliant community to learn from and collaborate with.” The event’s atmosphere of openness, collaboration, and plenty of refreshments allowed participants to connect with like-minded professionals, explore partnerships, and discuss potential solutions to shared challenges.
Networking at events like these is invaluable. It not only reinforces the camaraderie within the trust and safety space, but also provides opportunities to share insights on emerging trends, regulatory changes, and create lasting connections. The APAC Summit proved, once again, that this community is an essential resource for driving positive change across platforms and borders.
Looking Ahead
As we reflect on the discussions and connections made at the 2024 APAC Summit, it’s clear that regional events are critical to advancing the field of trust and safety. They provide us with a chance to collaborate with in-region experts, deepen our understanding of how to create safer online environments for all users, and spark conversation about further collaboration within APAC. The connections made in Singapore will undoubtedly shape the future of the industry, as professionals continue to innovate and implement best practices in their respective organizations.
The APAC Summit was more than just an event—it was a powerful reminder of the strength and potential of our global trust and safety community. We look forward to more opportunities to gather, learn, and grow together.
