Case study: Nextdoor faces criticism from volunteer moderators over its support of Black Lives Matter (June 2020)
In the summer of 2020, neighborhood-focused social network Nextdoor came into conflict with some of their volunteer moderators over discussion of the Black Lives Matter movement. The moderators argued that posts affirming the value of Black lives were “too political” for their platform, even as the company itself was posting about its support of BLM. What should a company do when the volunteer moderators they rely on reveal personal bias and prejudice?
