Join us for a panel discussion about transitioning from working for a non-governmental organization (NGO) to trust and safety with guests Laura Randall, Child Safety Lead, Liz Hegarty, Teen Safety Policy Manager, and Paola Maggiorotto, Trust and Safety Process Director and host, TSPA Director of Organizational Development, Kaofeng Lee. In addition to sharing their career journeys, panelists will reflect on what they learned working with NGOs that prepared them for T&S roles. Panelists will also speak about when and how they collaborate with NGOs in their current roles and what we, as a community, can do to best facilitate continued collaborations between NGOs and T&S teams.
Laura Randall is a Child Safety Lead at Google, based in the UK. Working in conjunction with multiple stakeholders across Trust & Safety, Laura and her team operationalize the rules/terms of service/policies to ensure that content is reviewed and enforced upon consistently and at scale, and to understand the nuances of child abuse and exploitation across Google products. Prior to Joining Google, Laura had a fifteen year career in law enforcement specializing in child abuse online and leading high risk investigations. Laura left the police to work in more preventative and awareness roles, joining the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC), the UKs largest children’s charity. Here, Laura developed courses for those who work with children to understand the risks children may encounter when using the internet and how to safeguard effectively, led online safety partnerships, and developed new innovative solutions to help children report abuse and seek help.
