Governments around the world have varying levels of concerns about what their citizens are saying — and seeing — online, and they expect tech platforms to remove what they don’t want to see. Some governments pass new laws and regulations; some governments don’t allow companies to operate in their countries if companies don’t follow their rules. One government — Russia, in this case — took a new tack, by slowing everything down.
Unhappy with Twitter for not complying with its takedown requests, the Russian Government decided to slow down Twitter in Russia, making downloading and uploading images and videos very slow.
