As we wrap up our highly anticipated 2nd Annual EMEA Summit, we are filled with gratitude and enthusiasm for the future of trust and safety. The event, which brought together over 300 attendees from 24 countries representing over 100 companies, was a testament to the growing importance and collective commitment to creating safer, more trustworthy digital environments. In addition, we had 63 speakers presenting 29 different sessions discussing the critical topics facing EMEA over the course of this jam-packed one-day event.

The theme of this year’s conference was “The Power of Collaboration,” and throughout each panel, presentation, and workshop our speakers highlighted the necessity of partnership across EMEA and in their work.

“Attending the TSPA EMEA Summit event once more allowed me to connect with peers and gain excellent insights from the sessions focusing on the MEA regions. The standard of the speakers was phenomenal sharing some new takeaways and considerations. Can’t wait now for TrustCon.”—Camilla Hegarty

Highlights from the Conference

We kicked off the conference with an inspiring keynote speech from TaskUs’ Senior Director, Trust & Safety Practise, Siva Raghava, who spoke about the summit theme of unity and collaboration within the trust and safety industry. He highlighted the passion and shared goals of professionals in the field, emphasizing the importance of unlearning old methods and embracing diverse backgrounds and experiences to tackle complex issues. He also discussed the critical role of collaboration in addressing emerging challenges and driving social change within the industry. We also had remarks from our esteemed Directors, Charlotte Willner and Maggie Kerr.

Some of the common themes we learned is that trust and safety is not the responsibility of a single entity but requires a concerted, collaborative effort from industry leaders around the globe, policymakers, and practitioners across the industry. By working together, organizations can develop more effective strategies and technologies to enhance online safety.

In line with a comprehensive approach, the panel, “Bridging Cultures, Building Trust: Content Policy Development in the African Context” addressed content policy roles, encouraging professionals to consider the importance of regional context, specifically addressing the nuanced needs and cultural diversities in Africa. Attendees heard real-life examples of online behavior that may appear abnormal out of context, but with cultural understanding are critical to online communities in region.

Leading a complementary discussion, the panel, “How to approach the multi-language challenge in EMEA,” spoke to the technology that enables regional inclusivity. Panelists highlighted the crucial role of auto-translation technologies in serving the multilingual EMEA region. Attendees learned about the technological advancements enabling platforms to bridge language barriers and optimize local user experiences. Both panels emphasized the importance of understanding cultural nuances to ensure effective communication and support regional growth.

This year’s new formats provided attendees with opportunities to engage in longer discussions on emerging threats and shifting technologies through roundtables and workshops. For instance, the roundtable, “Exploring effective moderation practices to create safer gaming environments” gave attendees the opportunity to share best practices and lessons learned in a more candid environment. Participants discussed child safety, voice moderation, and other areas of growing importance to the gaming industry practitioners face.

Finally, many sessions reflected the summit’s overarching theme of unity in the face of change by bringing together practitioners with close partners within the trust and safety ecosystem. One session, “A wave of data: A New Era of Regulated Transparency” brought together industry, regulators, and researchers to address how transparency reporting is shaping trust and safety. Attendees gained insight into how transparency reporting can help practitioners improve their own practices, understand regulator expectations, and learn how researchers have been approaching this to gain insights into platform’s practices around content moderation.
