At Apple, our Trust and Safety (T&S) team is responsible for ensuring our customers can trust our services and software and are safe and secure as they use them. As a member of the T&S Research team you will collaborate closely with T&S teams and cross functional partners to apply a range of qualitative and quantitative methods—from desk research and expert interviews to surveys and data analysis—to understand user trust and safety needs, foster innovation, inform strategic decisions, and support continuous improvement. This person will advance knowledge and understanding of online harms that may affect our customers (consumers, developers, and enterprises) and provide actionable research insights.
Key Qualifications
  • 3+ years conducting user experience research, and/or design research in industry or academia
  • Experienced in designing and carrying out research studies on various online harms (i.e. content moderation, misinformation and disinformation, personal safety) using qualitative and quantitative methods (this is a quant leaning mixed-methods role)
  • Exceptional at approaching research with curiosity and compassion, perceiving users’ needs, and passion for advancing knowledge and understanding of online harms and inspiring creative problem solving
  • Proven track record leading research and collaborating with teams to identify important research questions
  • Experience with applied statistics, and partnering with data science and analytics teams to analyze data, establish and track metrics, conduct A/B tests, and report on trends and insights
  • Expert in synthesizing and translating research findings to inform key decision making for policies, products, and operations
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with an emphasis on the ability to tell a compelling story with research
  • Knowledgeable about usability, accessibility, and design for safety principles
  • Keen attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, hands-on, creative environment


As a Trust and Safety UX Researcher, you will use quantitative and qualitative research methods to develop organizational knowledge and understanding of user trust & safety with Apple products and services.

Key responsibilities include collaborating with partners to design and implement user research studies, understanding and incorporating complex policy and business requirements into research, and communicating research results and recommendations to diverse audiences through compelling written reports and verbal presentations.

This position requires the ability to review, be exposed to, and/or to report on sensitive content. Research focus areas may range from different types of online harms related to interpersonal safety, account authenticity, and content moderation. Additionally, as a team early in our growth, the right candidate will also be excited by the opportunity to help build and shape the team’s processes, procedures, and deliverables.

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree required (master’s/doctorate preferred), combination of studies in any of the following: social sciences, media and mass communications, technology, design

3+ years of experience in user research in tech, applied research, and/or work experience that intersects with design, technology, society, and human rights is preferred
