As a member of the Slack Security Customer Protection team, you are the first line of detection of threat actors using Slack in unwanted and unexpected ways. As Slack’s data, number of customers, and features grow, protecting customers’ data from unwanted behaviors becomes an ever more important and exciting problem. The Security Customer Protection team develops and uses data pipelines, tools, and infrastructure to tease out high-quality signals from all the noise, which we use to detect unwanted behaviors, such as account takeovers and misuse of workspaces or tokens. Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of engineers responsible for technical strategy that drives forward looking approaches to detection and analysis engineering

  • Support the team as they develop projects and programs that build and scale data systems that do data processing of hundreds of billions of records daily

  • Partner with Data and Backend Engineering teams as well as Core platform and Features teams to understand and contribute to product and feature security

  • Develop, Coach and Grow security engineers

  • Represent the team in planning and product decisions, aligning the team with security- and company-wide goals

  • Implement effective security strategy, processes, and metrics both in-team and across the engineering organization

  • Represent Slack security and management in industry events

Requirements

  • You have 3+ years of engineering management experience leading productive, high-functioning teams with a focus in either security or data engineering.

  • You have a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field, or equivalent training, fellowship, or work experience.

  • Track record of managing performance and potential of employees to deliver consistent results as a team

  • Experience working with data technologies that power analytics (e.g. Airflow, Hive, Spark, Presto, Kafka, Pinot, MySQL or similar technologies).

  • Experience in cloud computing technologies (AWS, GCP, Azure)

  • Experience with Go, Python or another programming language

  • You don’t shy away from performance conversations and you recognize the relationship between objective feedback and career growth.

  • You are able to weigh several, sometimes conflicting constraints and transform them into balanced tactical and long-term projects.

  • You possess exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
