Our Trust & Safety team’s commitment is to keep our online community safe. We have invested heavily in human and machine-based moderation to remove harmful content quickly and often before it reaches our general community. As the Lead for the T&S Responsible Innovation team, you will bring subject matter expertise around ensuring inclusivity and fairness regarding vulnerable and marginalized communities (e.g., minorities, LGBTQ+, people with disabilities, etc.). You will drive important projects and programs that ensure that TikTok is a safe and inclusive platform. You will work cross functionally with key stakeholders across Product Policy, Product Management, Data Science, Operations and more. Additionally, you’ll serve as a thought partner to these teams, especially Product and Program Management teams around building T&S features in the most inclusive way possible.
What will I be doing?
– Drive the long-term strategy and roadmap for the Responsible Innovation team
– Manage a team of high-performers who bring distinct expertise across domains (e.g., racial inclusion, human rights) and functions (e.g., policy, research, project management, product management)
– Partner and consult with leads across other teams to infuse approaches to fairness across T&S
– Review T&S policies and product features on how they may impact vulnerable and marginalized communities and provide actionable guidance for mitigation
– Champion qualitative research to improve the TikTok experience for vulnerable and marginalized communities
– Facilitate the strengthening of key relationships with communities of global thought leaders to bolster approaches and solutions to trust and safety on the platform
Qualifications
– 10+ years of total experience in industry, academia, or analogous real-world experience (e.g. Government, NGOs, DEI consulting), with a preferred focus on one or more of the following areas: social equity, social sciences, human-computer interaction, digital humanities, science and technology studies, tech policy, human-centered design
– 5+ years of people management with exceptional EQ
– Deep expertise about one or more underrepresented communities (e.g., race, gender, LGBTQ+, etc.)
– A demonstrated understanding of critical social issues related to technology and innovation (e.g., privacy, ethics, human rights)
– Strong program management skills with a record of execution and improved outcomes
– A demonstrated ability to influence without direct control and experience working cross-functionally with various audiences with (e.g., engineering, policy, product, communications)
– Strong communication skills; ability to distill complex concepts into summaries that are easily understood by all audiences
Preferred qualifications
– PhD, JD, Master’s or other advanced degree
– Experience working with social media platforms, whether in industry or through research
– Fluent in a second language
– Experience in tech policy development
– Global people and/or project management experience
– Trust & Safety experience
