At Zendesk, we build software that delivers the best customer experiences. We lead the industry with beautifully simple software that companies use to engage their customers. We are on a mission to democratise CRM software by building Admin experiences that make it easy to set up, optimise and extend our customers’ use of Zendesk.

We are currently looking for a Principal Product Manager in our San Francisco office, to build a roadmap and create a vision which meets the needs of our growing and ever more sophisticated customer base. We are looking for someone with experience in access and identity management, abuse and vulnerability mitigation, threat detection, knowledge of the information security landscape, and a proven background in web based software. This candidate will take ownership of our customers’ security, build new and better tools, and help them create the most secure environment they can. You are comfortable working with senior engineering leaders and architects to advocate and develop our strategy of building secure and scalable infrastructure.

This role serves both a customer-facing audience who use our UIs and APIs to achieve their goals, and an internal facing audience who integrate with services which provide basic security functions such as authentication, identity verification, and logging. The person who takes this role will work directly with engineering teams to manage their roadmap, and work with other PMs to guide our product’s security posture.

What You Get To Do

  • Identify improvements Zendesk can make to build a more secure product, build customer trust, and inspire confidence in sensitive customer use cases

  • Build roadmaps to incrementally deliver customer value while reshaping the landscape of secure data within Zendesk

  • Mentor other product managers and help them develop roadmaps across multiple different parts of our product

  • Stay on top of industry and trends and help Zendesk stay current

  • Bring experience of best practices and methods for keeping data secure and applications secure, and learn new ways to make Zendesk a leader in this space

  • Work day-to-day in a dynamic scrum team, lead grooming and planning meetings, write detailed stories and champion the delivery of regular incremental improvements

  • Collaborate with product and engineering leaders to drive projects in many areas of our product, increasing adoption of new and improved services

  • Establish relationships across Zendesk teams and functions, including engineering, design, security, legal, sales, and support/customer advocacy to build and launch exceptional experiences

What You Bring To The Role

  • Strong grasp of Information security fundamentals and experience in web application security, including access and identity management protocols (SAML, OAuth 2.0), threat actors (abuse, malware, etc)

  • The ability to conceive and execute long term strategies with incremental releases adding customer benefit at every stage

  • Comfort with mentorship and coaching – you have knowledge and want to share it with your peers

  • You are opinionated and take initiative. You have preferences and speak up for them around different stakeholders from various backgrounds

  • You are passionate about delivering great products, and want to deliver solutions that people will want to use

  • Ability to influence and galvanise. You know how to bring people together, and get people excited.

  • Exemplary communication skills. You know what to surface, when, and to whom. You adapt your message to your audience, understand complex technical issues and explain them simply.

  • Analytical approach with a real passion for data-driven decision making while understanding how to balance short and long term business, product, and customer outcomes

  • Creative thinking. We are rethinking what a modern Admin Experience means and need you to help us drive that vision with new ideas for age-old problems.

  • Constant improvement. Zendesk values and will actively encourage your improvement. Equally, we are looking for someone who actively looks for ways to challenge themselves and their team.
