The Role

The Tech Coalition is seeking a Director of Public Affairs & Communications to lead the Coalition’s communications and external affairs strategy, ensure that the Coalition’s message is effectively communicated, and help the TC mobilize the full power of the global tech industry to keep children safe.

Objectives:

  • The Tech Coalition is recognized as the global leader in facilitating effective industry collaboration on preventing and reducing online child sexual exploitation and abuse.

  • The Tech Coalition is recognized as a leading convenor and effective facilitator of dialogue between the Tech Industry and policy makers, regulators, law enforcement, NGOs, survivor networks, and other key child protection stakeholders.

  • The Tech Coalition is recognized as a leading resource for big and small companies seeking to build or improve their capacity to stop online sexual exploitation and abuse of children.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the continuing development and execution of a strategic public affairs and communications strategy that measurably increases understanding and awareness among key stakeholders of the increasing steps achieved to combat online child sexual exploitation and abuse.

  • Lead the evolution and stewardship of our brand strategy, brand awareness and market position.

  • Define the TC’s strategic message and themes and ensure that they are communicated consistently and effectively across all TC-owned channels.

  • Oversee and manage the TC’s external engagements and strategic partnerships. Own individual strategic partner relationships as appropriate.

  • Drive effective dialogue and productive collaboration between TC Members and key governmental and nongovernmental stakeholders through issue focused forums.

  • Engage with media outlets, both proactively and reactively, to generate well-informed, high impact media coverage.

  • Create and oversee the creation and delivery of original content across a variety of social platforms, including current and emerging channels.

  • Track global policy and regulatory trends relating to OCSEA.

  • Build in depth knowledge of the technical and regulatory challenges facing the tech industry relating to online child sexual exploitation and abuse and the steps industry is taking to address these challenges.

  • Represent TC in key venues and serve as spokesperson as necessary.

  • Develop effective strategies to support and promote key product launches and events the TC delivers to members and stakeholders.

  • Own and manage the TC’s website and social media channels.

  • Coordinate closely with the communications functions of partner and member organizations.

  • Lead crisis communications and manage reputational risk.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree

  • Minimum 7 years in communications/public and external relations role in tech, nonprofit, government or related Industry

  • A proven track record of delivering and executing successful communications strategies and brand storytelling.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop clear, targeted, and effective communications and external stakeholder relation strategies tailored for different audiences, sectors, and channels.

  • Exceptional leadership and collaboration skills, and ability to build strong partnerships with cross-functional teams at all levels across the organization, and agency partners, to facilitate team success.

  • Demonstrated capacity to gain attention and traction in a highly competitive media market with a host of competing voices striving for attention and market share.

  • Experience utilizing various social media channels to achieve strategic communications, public affairs and brand goals.

  • Demonstrated expertise managing relationships with and requests from traditional media.

  • Experience managing external contractors

  • Premier communicator with exemplary writing skills and an innate ability to make very complex concepts approachable and intuitive.
