Tech Policy Press seeks a Community Engagement Producer to manage community outreach and engagement. The position will engage with a diverse community of experts, readers, and others to build an open and responsive media platform to advance democracy in the digital age. A successful candidate will facilitate an inclusive process that prioritizes critical questions at the intersection of technology and democracy and ideas for solutions to produce informative and impactful publications from a growing community of researchers, advocates, and other experts. The position will also develop an engagement program with our volunteer masthead to increase participation and solicit feedback on editorial products, strategy and processes. Finally, the position will expand the audience for the publication and manage its social media accounts.

Responsibilities:

    • Engage with a diverse set of stakeholders and communities to facilitate the production of articles, analysis, commentary, and other related publications and community participation in TPP initiatives and events
    • Develop awareness of timely issues in technology policy and the relevant research communities and contribute them to the editorial strategy
    • Assist with developing and executing community and audience engagement strategies across digital publishing and distribution platforms
    • Help manage social media accounts and monitor, track and analyze website and social media trends to optimize traffic and identify growth opportunities
    • Collaborate with editors to optimize stories for success on search, social, and other digital platforms. Provide feedback and analysis on content performance and promotional campaigns

Experience, skills, and qualifications:

Essential 

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, including two years of experience managing or developing community engagement programs or similar engagement or outreach role for a publication, academic institution, think tank, NGO or similar organization
    • Experience in and enthusiasm for journalism and public policy; excellent communication and writing skills; comfort with journalism values and best practices
    • Experience in project and event facilitation management
    • Fluency with major social media platforms and how people use different platforms
    • A commitment to advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice

Desirable 

    • Existing knowledge of the impact of digital platforms and the internet on democracy
    • Familiarity with online media analytics and other related tools
